1/10 Discovery Principle: Who can decide what to build?
The world of tech products has a very specific trait: it's changing so fast and figuring out the right thing to do can be so counter-intuitive it's basically impossible to predict which feature or product will solve our customers needs in a valuable, usable, feasible and viable way.
As Steve Jobs said:
People don't know what they want until you show it to them. That's why I never rely on market research. Our task is to read things that are not yet on the page.
That's why we can't rely on customers or executives to describe what to build. It is the product team's job to make sure their solution will actually solve a given problem.
